Sex, Consortship, and Children

Terra Deiens have very few sexual taboos, foremost amongst them being sex with children and non-consensual sex. It is expected that most children will have sex after beginning puberty and most are urged to do so with the proper precautions. Post pubescent teenagers to the age of majority (18) while urged to have sex are strictly encouraged to explore with members of their own age. Those above the age of majority are not allowed to have sex with those under 18.

Once a Terra Deien has reached the age of 25, they are permitted to take or be taken as a consort. (The person with the lesser rank is known as the Consort.) Consortship takes the place of marriage within Terra Deien society. Many Consorts will stay together for years upon years, but sometimes they are known only to last for a few years before they go their separate ways. There are no rules against only having one and most times the King or Queen -Elect will have a consort of each sex.

Most Terra Deiens are bisexual with only some that are completely homo- or hetero-sexual. Asexuality and celibacy are not unknown, though they are usually met with mixed reactions ranging from concern to nonchalance and none enter the House De La'Mor, though some do enter Sanee or Maldorian.

Gender fluidity is common, with some people opting to use various enhancements and magics to change their gender multiple times during a single party.  Those wishing for a longer/permanent transformation have been known to approach House Daemona for it, but it does not come lightly, nor cheaply.

Please see Crime and Punishment for information on sex related crimes.

Pregnancy

General: Procreation requires at least two people (but can include more), with one to have female reproductive organs and at least one to have male reproductive organs.  If a same sex union wishes to have a child, they must utilize a member of the opposite sex.

Nobles (any members of the High Houses): Have a very hard time getting pregnant and most, unless specifically looking to get pregnant, use a variety of herbs to make sure it doesn't happen by accident.  (If you are interested in a pregnancy line, you will need to roll dice with the bot. To be successful, you must roll a 20 on a d20.)

Most children born to a contracting member of a house will favor their mother's House, but this is not always true. There is much speculation about why they have a much harder time of having children than commoners.

Commoners: (Anyone of a lesser house or no house at all) Can get pregnant with much more ease. Accidental pregnancies and miscarriages are frequent.  Children born of an accidental pregnancy are regularly given to a house in the hopes that the child may better themselves.

Children that have not yet reached puberty are trained by the House they are given to (or born into) in general skills and knowledge. It is only after they reach puberty that their training takes on the more formal tones of their house. (If a child is given into a house that won't become their House, either because of temperament or natural personality, they are moved into the house that should be theirs.)

There are exceptions to this: House Andorian, House De La'Mor, House Maldorian, and House Sanee. House Andorian's children always begin training at a very early age to fight - many know that before children of this house know how to speak, they know what a wooden fighting dagger feels like in their hand. As for House De'La Mor, Maldorian, and Sanee, once a child has been chosen to enter their ranks, they are often fostered in another House until they reach their age of majority at 18 (based upon testing, or their mother's house). It is only once they have reached this age that their sexual debut may be sold and they may begin their formal house training.
