Daemon Night

For centuries, the Daemona death practices have been considered strange and unusual. Their dead are buried within the forest, planted with a single seed of a tree clutched in the hands of the dead, with two silver coins placed on the eyes. Over time...these seeds grow, roots intertwining and joining the conjoined mass of root system that makes up the Forest of Lost Souls. Daemon has granted them power, upon death, they return it to him.

Long ago, Daemona used to have a city out in the vast fields in the shadow of the Teeth of the Moon, Daemona had been split from each other, separated, growing as this city as a people still recovering from their split from the Svorolds...but that wasn't enough for Daemon. He saw his children growing apart, the same divide that took the Svorolds would no doubt take them as well if they did not stand together.

Daemon was said to have taken his children from the old city out into the plains beyond, planting this first tree, feeding it with the drops of his own blood. The God Tree  grew before their very eyes, gnarled and wide, reaching large branches out to scrape the stars and blot out the moon above them. It stretched out its roots, sprouting a massive forest from them.  The growth destroyed the city, taking it back in root and limb, in brush and tree. Stones crumbled and buildings fell and where vast fields once were was now the Great Forest. The city now lay in ruins, deep within a dark forest and its people had to begin anew. Daemona castle was formed. A place where all could reside together for the greater good of the house, for Daemon. Stronger unified than ever apart. The event unified the Daemona and it was this that began the practices of their death rites, to bury their dead to join Daemon and return their magic back to him, back to the land to strengthen their unity.  Stronger together, tied to one another through life...and in death.

It is believed that the forest is so full of the void and afterlife, that it is not just the spirits of the Daemona that reside there. Things that wanted to grab hold and drag the living back to the void with them...Coins were added to the eyes of the dead, and the use of masks to hide the face and eyes of the living seemed to deter the spirits. Protected, the Daemona sought the advice, the continued tutiage from their ancestors, to never lose themselves again.

The Event:

Nowadays there is a celebration held in the honor of the house creation.

Once a year, in the deepest, darkest nights of Autumn, when leaves have long since changed color, and lay decaying on the cold earth, the veil between the living and the dead becomes thinned. It is said that if one was to walk through the forest, that the spirits may be drawn to them, taking hold of the living and dragging them back to the void of afterlife. But if one were to wear a mask, the spirits, confused and eyes blinded by the silver coins, would not be able to distinguish between what was spirit, and what was living body. It is said that at this time, with the right precautions, communication with the dead is possible. If you were to walk through the forest on Daemon Night, you just might catch a glimpse of your dead loved ones and maybe, just maybe, be able to speak with them.

The allure of both danger, and possibility of connecting with loved ones draws a crowd to Daemona Castle, pulling attention away from the bright shining city of Pax and off to the dark wilds of Daemona Many make the pilgrimage, for curiosity, for closer, for just the thrill of being scared. And House Daemona does not disappoint. They open the gates of their house, allowing visitors to stay, and feast, to don masks before the lantern-lit procession into the pits of the forest begins.

In the forest, the journey begins, each person, or groups of persons, having their own path to walk on. Magic of the Daemona is used to create the terrifying atmosphere. Some encounters are just an illusion conjured up to elicit some sort of danger, other times...what you see is real.

What mysterious adventures will you get caught up in on Daemon Night?
